Fly

I have built this tower
Without a window or stair.
I have placed myself upon it-
This throne of high despair.

Each stone was a problem,
And sorrow inbetween;
Mortar comes all to easy
Without a chance to dream.

But are we truly shackled
To a past and pain, its door?
One locked by grief and troubles,
Whose shackles we pretend, abhor?

Ah, is this the key my friend?
To falling into peace?
Relief isn't in going backward,
But in giving it release!
Poem and art © by me. Please do not reproduce in any form without my permission.

An idea I have had for a long time now, but was finally inspired to put down on paper by :iconflynn-the-cat:'s little contest. I had an entirely different vision for how this was going to be painted, but sometimes mistakes happen for a reason (and she and the background did fight me the whole way too-argh!).

As for the poem, I am rather self conscious about putting any of my writing up for the world to see, and I apologize if it is not all that good. Words sometimes pour from my hand as though it is possessed, as did this after finishing this picture. Depending on how well it is liked, I might share others... but we shall see!

Dedicated to everyone out there who has felt pain...may you find your peace. :)
